Schmaltz’s Sandwich Shop
Waco’s Own Born and Bread

Schmaltz’s Sandwich Shop opened the downtown location at 105 South Fifth Street in 1975. Over the years, there have been many changes to Downtown Waco, and through it all, Schmaltz’s customers have remained loyal — from city and county employees to business professionals to Baylor students and faculty.

Remodeled in 1993, the building was gutted, a new facade was added and after six agonizing weeks, the store reopened. “Our employees are so loyal,” said owner Nelson Rue. “Many have been here for years and their personalities add to the flavor of the shop. As downtown Waco grows, we plan on being a part of all the excitement.” Both the Downtown and the Townwest Center locations on Valley Mills Drive serve soups, salads and all your favorite sandwiches on homemade artisanal bread. Downtown Schmaltz’s is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Townwest Schmaltz’s is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
